Mini-Chieftains Bow Out in National Final

19th May 2010

It was a tale of two overtime goals. On Saturday the semi-final against Sheffield was a tightly fought contest all the way. Locked at 1:1 after 3 periods Chelmsford scored the golden goal that took them through to the final on Sunday against Bracknell. Another close battle and a last minute equaliser from Bracknell once again brought the golden goal into play. Unfortunately the Mini-Chieftains lost out this time and finished in 2nd place.

Whilst dissappointing at the time, on reflection the boys have given us a great season and I am rightly proud of what they have done. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the players, coaches and parents that have made this season's acheivement possible. Good luck in the coming season with your new squads.

Cameron Campbell,

Manager

Mini-Chieftains Division 1 make National Finals.

26th April 2010

Last weekend the Mini Chieftains were confirmed as runners up in the Division 1 South league. Finishing the season with 15 wins, 1 tie and 2 losses to gain 31 points, just 1 point behind league leaders Bracknell. This gives the team a place in the EIHA National Finals which take place in Sheffield on 15/16 May. This is a fantastic achievement for the team and for the club. It has been a while since a Chelmsford u12 team has made Nationals and the first time that the club has been represented by two teams. The Tomahawks u16s have made Nationals for the second successive year.

 CONGRATULATIONS

to all the Mini-Chieftains that have been selected in their South East Conference Teams for the Hull tournament.

U11 – Sam Jackson, Ross Cowan

U13 – Oliver Baldock, Jon Binder, Sam Mercer, Taylor Ross

U12 Div 1 28/02/10 – Bracknell v Mini-Chieftains 5 – 5

A month break in our season and we travelled to Bracknell to once again face the undisputed league leaders.

A steady start to the first period with neither team dominating. Bracknell resisting the Chelmsford attack with strong and controlled defence as always. However the Mini Chieftains hit the net first but the goal was dissallowed for an apparent hand pass. A couple of minutes later and it was Bracknell who put the first mark on the scoreboard. The first period ended with just that lone goal between the teams.

A bad start to the second period saw Bracknell ahead by a further two goals only three minutes in. The boys battled on but five minutes later we were 4-0 down and it looked like a rout was coming. A cross checking penalty on Bracknell brought our first advantage. With the power play half done our forwards managed to breech the defence. Taylor passed from wide across the goal where Sam and Ollie were waiting to pounce. It was Ollie who tapped in behind the netminder for our first goal. This seemed to galvanise the team and a little while later Ollie scored again this time from Charlie. The second period ended 4-2 and we had managed to shut down two Bracknell powerplays. Luckily with the third to come we were still in the game.

The momentum had definitely swung our way. Little Lukas Soderlund hit the net having finally got past the towering Bracknell defensive pair. The opposition fought back trying to keep their lead and racked up another score. This was answered almost straight away as our 2nd line defence forced the puck around the Bracknell net. It was Arran at the blue line who picked it up and fired past the crowd into the goal. There was still ten minutes to play. A cross checking call on Ollie gave Bracknell another powerplay but once again it was killed.

Tense minutes followed with both sides not willing to lose control but 25 seconds from time Sam Mercer hit the back of the Bracknell net to tie the score. The boys on the ice were joyous but celebrations were cut short as one of the Bracknell defence congratulated Ollie a bit too warmly over the boards by the sin bin. The resulting face off brought a slashing penalty on Taylor giving the home team a chance on a final powerplay. This was contained for the 15 seconds it took to end the game. A spirited fight back from the Chelmsford team to earn the point. Deserved MoM went to Zachary who faced 27 shots.

Oliver Baldock 2 0, Sam Mercer 1 1(SoG), Arran Goodridge 1 0, Lukas Soderlund 1 0, Charlie Ascott 0 1, Taylor Ross 0 1, Zachary Grandy-Smith (MoM).
